Meow TKC Kitties, and welcome to March's issue of The Kitties' Club Newsletters!! ....Oh catnip, I can't believe I'm four days late on this!!! Please forgive me!!

Sassy Sez ~ A Purrfectly Honest and Unbiased Review

Hi!! My name is Sassafras, and my furrend Twixy lets me write a review for TKC newsletter each month of a product my furfamily and I have tested. I will rate each product based on the following criteria:
Quality, Availability, Durability, Price, and most importantly, THE FUN FACTOR!!! At the end of each review I will give the product a rating of 1-5 Mice.

1 Mouse=Dirty Litterboxish
2 Mice=Good for 30 seconds only
3 Mice=OK if there’s nothing else to play with
4 Mice=YAY! Score!
5 Mice=The. Best. Thing. Ever. Invented.

Usually I like to review toys because, well, I get to test them out first and it is fun. But this month I would like to tell you all about a product that has helped my family, and I have meowed with other cats who it has helped a great deal too. The product is called Feliway. Feliway helps calm stressed kitties, helps prevent urine marking and furniture scratching, and can increase appetite. It comes in both a spray and a diffuser that you plug into the wall. Basically what Feliway is, is a synthetic feline facial pheromone. It mimics the scent that we kitties leave behind when we rub our cute faces on things, and makes us feel more at ease. We originally started using Feliway Spray in our house because Mom was buying a new couch, and I had destroyed the old one with my claws. She started spraying the Feliway on the old couch a month before we bought the new one, and kept my nails trimmed, and I stopped clawing at the couch almost immediately. The second reason we use Feliway is because my sister Phoebe, a former feral kitty, was peeing in places she shouldn't have. My Mom started spraying the Feliway around the house religiously when she found out, and Phoebe no longer pees outside the box. The third thing we use Feliway for is in stressful situations. When we go to the vet Mom sprays it on a towel in our carrier, or if there are workers coming into our house, she plugs in the diffuser, and we stay calm. My sister Polka Dot used to be very timid and high strung and would only nibble at her food, but since we have been using the Feliway diffuser, she is so cool and laid back sometimes we don't even recognize her. I would like to point out that Feliway is NOT a deterrent. It is not something that will keep a kitty OFF a couch or bed (why would you want to do that anyways? mol), it just keeps us from wanting to scratch or pee on them And you *have* to follow the direction in the package and NOT spray it ON the cat. The price for the 75 ml spray bottle is anywhere from $15.00 to $25.00 depending on where you buy it. We buy it on amazon.com from a seller and it is cheaper then what you would spend in Petsmart or another pet store (most pet stores carry it). The diffuser begins at $21.00, and again is cheaper from amazon then in stores. Most stores lock it up so you have to ask for it specially. I could really go on forever about it's uses, but I don't want to take up Twixy's whole newsletter.

Here is the summary of my review:
Pros: REALLY works, it seriously saved our family because the humans were going crazy with Phoebe's inappropriate urination. It really kept us calm when work was being done on our apartment.
Cons: It can be expensive, and time consuming, you *have* to use it every day for 30-45 days for it to work, you MUST follow the directions, because it can be harmful if you over spray or use it wrong.

Here is the Feliway website:
www.vpl.com

So, I would give Feliway 5 PAWS for a rating. Even though it can be expensive, the effects it has are worth it. Our family was turned upside-down when Phoebe had her problems, and this stuff saved us!! If anycat has any question about our experience with Feliway, feel free to pawmail me.

Grand Reopening of The Kitties' Club Garden!!!

As you all know, the garden of friendship was closed down a few weeks ago, due to the need of new soil. One of the things that needed to be changed was the name. believe it or not, there is already a garden of friendship!! I was messing around with Google earlier last month, because I wanted to see if my website showed up; Instead of seeing my Freewebs.com website, I saw a other website that went by this name.

I really liked the name of the garden of friendship, but I didn't want to run into any copy right problems, so the garden of friendship is now going to be called The Kitties' Club Garden...TKC Garden for short!!

I hope you all enjoyed the new look, flowers, Etc, and if anyone has any problems, questions or comments, please feel free to paw mail me!!

What I like most about spring is that it's the anniversary season for when I first came to my palace, the Cat Mahal, to take on the job of running it! It's not easy taking care of everything--marking the humans, marking any new items that the humans bring in, supervising the humans and keeping them out of trouble (they're so clumsy!), training them (I'm making progress!), protecting the palace from birds (I don't let any of them fly in!), . . . .

But I'm a very competent kitty princess and I can definitely manage it!

My favorite thing about spring is all the birdies! As it gets warmer, Mommy will leave the door open more often so I can listen to the birdies and soak up the sunshine. And I love being warm & dry inside the house during those April showers.

The Kitties' Club Show with Athena

Meow TKC Kitties,
And welcome to The Kitties' Club Show with my guest Athena. I hope you all enjoy it!!!

Athena’s Profile <-- Just a quick look at Athena, before my interview.
>^..^<
Home: Branford, CT

Age: 3

Breed: Domestic Short Hair. But Aunt Bobbie, who is an expert, thinks I have some Siamese mixed in somewhere.

Hobby: Getting belly rubs and neck scratches!

My Personality Type: Well, I have to admit I'm a bit timid.

Pet Peeve: Being picked up when I'm busy!

Favorite Toy: It used to be jingly balls, but now I'm especially into catnip mousies, in all colors! Meow! I just love to play!

Favorite Thing to Eat: Every day I have a special brunch treat--Gerber turkey sticks in aspic (it's for human babies, but who cares?--MOL). I like the aspic best, cold from the refrigerator, but I eat the turkey too.

(Twixy) What is your new room going to look like?
(Athena)Well I don't know exactly, since it's still under construction, but I do know it will be big, and have white fabric wall coverings (meow--I hadn't thought of this, but do you suppose they will be any good for scratching? I'll have to see!). There will be a green tile floor, with some fluffy white area rugs for me to roll on. There will be three big windows facing south and west, so there will be plenty of sun--I love to sunbathe! And bird feeders just outside so I can watch birdies! And climbing furniture (Alfiechinacat has given me some good advice about what to have my humans buy)! And napping furniture! And--and--and. . . . I can hardly wait!

(Twixy)What made your humans think of making you, your own room?
(Athena)Well, all the rooms in my palace are technically my rooms, aren't they? And which room is my favorite changes from time to time. When I first came to live here at the Cat Mahal, I liked the living room best and used to nap there all the time. Then I started using the guest room for naps--I liked that a lot because the bed is right next to the window over the front door, which makes it very convenient for me to keep an eye on the humans when they go in and out. Then I started liking the loft room better, because one of my humans practices the violin in there and I love the squeaky sounds.

Oh--but back to your question--well, I'm a strictly indoor kitty. I used to be outside, but life outside without a home was very scary and I don't wish to ever go out again if I can help it! In fact, if I'm near a door when someone opens it, I run as far away as I can!

This being the case, the humans wanted to make sure I had plenty of space to run around. They noticed that I didn't like to go into the basement--it was so dusty down there! I like to keep my fur and my paws dainty and clean!--and they thought that if they finished it into a real room, I would like it better! (Of course, like most things that are good for kitties, it will be good for them too!)

(Twixy)Do you have any favorite spots you like to sleep?
(Athena)The humans have a number of soft fleece throws in different rooms, on different sofas and love seats. I'm especially fond of napping on these. First I jump up and knead them for a while, and then I feel sleepy and lie down--it's great! And one of the throws even has my name monogrammed on it!

(Twixy)What are some of the tricks you have taught your humans so far?
(Athena)I have taught the female human to move a chair next to the laundry closet when I want to jump up to the top of the washing machine. I have taught the male human to leave the bathroom when I want to go in there and use the litter box (when I am using the bathroom, it is strictly the ladies' room, and males have to leave--only the female human can stay!). I'm still working on training them to fetch and retrieve my catnip mousies. I have about 15 of these, but I can only find one at the moment because I keep losing them; it's the job of the humans to find them for me, but they're not too good at it!

(Twixy) What’s your favorite thing to do around your house?
(Athena) Take naps! I also like to look out the windows and play with the humans. They're always so grateful when I give them any attention!

(Twixy) You seem to like the laundry closet a lot, how often do you hang out in there?
(Athena) At least once a day. I especially like to go up to the high shelf where table linens are stored and shed some hair on them. I think it helps make the humans' dinner more festive.

(Twixy) Do you have any advice for other princesses on how to train their humans?
(Athena) Always meow loudly and firmly! Humans aren't too good at understanding things, and they tend to have short attention spans. But with persistence and firmness, you can accomplish a lot!
